PROGRAMS
The McCaul SchoolA specialized autism program in Leomisnter, MA where your student will receive individualized special education services, strong behavioral support, and integrated therapy throughout the day.
The McCaul School welcomes students 3-22 who are on the autism spectrum and may experience cognitive delays, communication, social and/or sensory challenges.
Individualized Learning for Students with Autism
At the McCaul School, instruction is guided by the principles of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). Each student’s learning plan is based on their Individualized Education Plan (IEP), strengths, and specific goals.
With small group instruction and low student-to-staff ratios, students receive consistent, individualized support.
We focus on helping students build communication skills, strengthen social development, develop emotional and behavioral regulation, increase independence and improve functional academic skills.
Students have access to:
- Assistive technology and specialized learning tools
- Hands-on activities that build daily confidence
- Real-world experiences, such as making purchases in the community
Teachers also partner with local businesses and community organizations to create vocational and community-based learning opportunities.
The McCaul School includes a dedicated vocational kitchen where students can safely practice cooking and independent living skills through supervised, hands-on instruction.
Sensory Support Built Into the School Day
Many students with autism benefit from structured sensory support and our building was designed with that in mind.
Throughout the school, students have access to dedicated calm and sensory rooms that include lighting options, textured seating, colored mirrors, an assortment of building materials, movement tools, compression equipment, and a specialized sensory swing. Time spent in these spaces are part of the daily schedule and help students regulate, refocus, and return to the classroom with their peers.
Our 1,000+ square foot centralized sensory gym provides additional opportunities for movement and skill-building in a safe environment. Features include:
- A jungle gym-style castle slide
- A zip line into a foam pit
- A tire jumper
- Sensory swings
- LEGO and magnet walls
- Space to ride tricycles
- A mini rock climbing wall
This space supports coordination, strength, body awareness, and confidence while helping students stay regulated and ready to learn.
On-Site Therapy and Behavioral Support
The McCaul School offers integrated support services within the school day. Depending on each student’s IEP, services may include speech therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) services and nursing support.
Therapists make use of all areas of the building based on the needs of each student. They may work directly in classrooms and throughout the building, including sensory rooms, hallways, outdoor areas, and the sensory gym. This approach allows students to practice skills outside of more traditionally confined areas.
The McCaul School team collaborates to support academic growth, independence, communication, social skills, and daily living development for each and every student. If you’d like to meet with the Director for more information, please contact us.
